Treads on a Meadow contains forty-six poems penned by twenty-six emerging voices of fervent poetry enthusiasts. The collaboration is motivated by a shared passion for literature and love for the planet. The poems in this anthology are part of poetry of witness that brings attention to marginalized voices and everyday experiences that are often overlooked in mainstream discourse. The creative works voice the ecological concerns of the authors and their wish for a harmonious bond among all creations. Three themes organically surface from the creative process: Mother Earth, despairing calamities, and reclaiming the future. The anthology opens with verses about Mother Earth in which the poets reflect on how they perceive the Earth as a caring mother. The second section, despairing calamities, contemplates how humans take for granted nature’s providence, resulting in degradation and catastrophes. In the last section of this anthology, readers will find poems with a sense of hope for the future; they carry the optimism needed to mend what is broken. This anthology is a creative response to the ongoing environmental crises that hopefully start a conversation and inspire small yet meaningful actions showing that we care about the footprint we leave on our planet.
