The existing sociolinguistics books are obsolete. The language cases or samples are from the colonial era, when the Europeans met the (indigenous) people. The definitions and language files of lingua franca, creole, and pidgin are from those meetings. Today, the meeting is on the internet. Language contacts are through the internet. Therefore, the sociolinguistics cases and samples are completely different from the previous ones. However, these books do not sufficiently include an Asian, let alone Indonesian context, in the language samples and sociolinguistic cases. The language data discussed are quite obsolete, coming from the colonial era. English has now become the lingua franca around the globe. People from different cultures use English when they do not share a common language. With the advancement of the Internet now the locus of contacts of people from different cultures is the Internet. Social contacts of people from a variety of cultures that influence language development occur online. This book, "Sociolinguistics: The Language of the Millennials" includes both the conventional language samples as well as the new cases of sociolinguistics due to the online contacts. It provides richer and more contextual data for students and common readers. It explores the language contacts not only of those from the colonial era but also from current situations in Asia and Indonesia. It integrates ICT into the data and exercises so that the book is context-rich and more fun to use.
